You’ll want to make sure that all of your data is safely transferred when upgrading your Android phone. Fortunately, Google makes transferring your messages, call logs, contacts, music, and photos to your new phone quite straightforward.

  • Go to Settings > Google > Backup – You’ll be prompted to use Google One if you’ve never backed up your phone before.
  • The Backup page displays how much storage space you have available as well as what has previously been backed up
  • You can also do an immediate backup. So, if you plan to transfer your data to a new phone, click Back up right away.
  • Enter your PIN if you have a screen lock enabled. (You will be unable to use your fingerprint or face unlock for this purpose.)
  • At that moment, your data will be backed up. It may take some time; at this point, the Backup screen will be grayed out.

Google Images is an excellent service for storing photos and movies. It automatically backups data, offers flexible sharing restrictions and employs on-device machine learning to sort faces.

If you haven’t already, here’s how to get started with Photos.

  • From the app drawer or home screen, launch Google Photos.
  • Select the hamburger menu from the top left of the screen (three horizontal lines).
  • Select Settings.
  • Choose Backup & Sync.
  • Make sure the Backup & sync toggle is turned on.
  • Make sure Backup mode is set to High quality.

If you don’t have your previous phone but were wise enough to save it, you can copy all your applications and data from that backup.

  • When you get to the screen labeled Tap, follow the same procedures as before. Are you unable to utilize an older device? To use your old device, go to the lower-left corner.
  • You’ll be warned that you might not be able to retrieve as much data without your prior device. Okay, tap and shrug.
  • Use your Google account to log in. If you don’t have your old phone and your account has two-step authentication enabled, you may need to use another method to verify the account, such as one of the backup codes you should have saved when you signed up for 2FA.
  • Accept the terms of service from Google.
  • Choose the backup you want to recover your data from. It’s possible that you’ll be asked to enter your PIN from that device.
  • After that, you may choose what you want to restore. Photos, videos, Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive will be linked automatically. You may then choose whether or not to sync apps, contacts, SMS messages, and other device information. Tap Restore when you’re done.
  • Several Google services, such as backup and location monitoring, may be turned on or off.
  • Accept the proposal.
  • You must agree to Google’s Terms of Service and create a PIN once more.
  • You may set up biometric verification if you like.
  • You can use Google Assistant if you like. You may also choose whether or not to use Google Pay and whether you want an always-on display. Finally, you may add additional features such as an additional email account.

You should be able to use your phone almost immediately; however, it will take some time for all of your applications and data to be downloaded and installed.
