Push notifications are quite useful to mobile users. You can see what’s going on in social media or receive updates from your favorite apps without even unblocking the screen of your phone. However, some apps and websites can be very annoying. Would you like to get rid of unnecessary notifications that plague your iPhone? Well the process is quite simple.

Managing the push notifications

These notifications are embedded in the OS and you will have to tweak the settings. Below are the instructions to do it properly:

01.   Open the settings app on your iPhone

02.   Find the item called “notifications” signified by an icon of a white rectangle with a white dot

03.   Tap the line saying “Show previews” and choose from:

·   Always — allow notifications whenever they are ready to be shown

·   When Unlocked — allow notifications only during active use of the phone

·   Never — self-explanatory, never receive any system messages

04.   The obscure slider adjacent to the line “Allow notifications” will turn them on or off

05.   In the “Alerts” section, you can choose from several options:

·   Lock screen — alerts are allowed when you phone is blocked

·   Notification center — alerts are automatically rerouted to the center that you can open by swiping from up to down

·   Banners — alerts are allowed only when you unblock the phone and use it

06.   Banner Style or Show as Banners in the iOS11 have two options to choose from:

·   Temporary — all of the messages will be shown for a brief period of time and then be dismissed

·   Persistent — all system messages stay active until read

You can also modify notifications in order to make them a little bit more useful to you specifically. You can employ any combination of preferences:

·   The switch next to “Sounds” will turn off the sounds of alerts that not significant. Significant alerts are emergency or public safety alerts.

·   Badges is an option that will show how many notifications are from an app. These are red numbers that hang over the icons on your screen.

·   Show Previews is a section where you can control notifications and how they are displayed on the screen of your iPhone. You can give voice mails and SMS special attention if you need so.

·   Show history is an option that allows you to check notifications that are stored in the center.

·   If you are a user of iOS 12, you can also manage notifications by app. You can do it if you go to “Notification grouping”.

Special push notifications from iPhones

On top of regular messages from your apps and websites, you can also receive Amber, Emergency or Public Safety alerts. Amber alerts are from law enforcement bodies (only for US, Canadian and some European users of iPhones). Emergency alerts are messages about dangerous weather conditions or other dangerous events. Public safety alerts were introduced in iOS 12 and are issued by official governmental bodies when there are concerns that there is danger to life.
