Like many other browsers, Internet Explorer tries to keep track of your actions on the internet. While it is certainly a feature that makes it more convenient to browse the web, it is not always the best idea to allow other users to see which websites you have recently visited. Removing this data is a good way to prevent people from seeing what you are up to on the internet.

Deleting the IE’s history

1. First of all, you will need to enter the main menu of the browser (marked by a gear icon).
2. Search for the option called “Safety” and then look for the option allowing you to delete the history.
3. In the new window, check the box next to “History” and hit “Delete”.

In the same menu, you can also find the option to completely reset the cache where some files that are accumulated during your internet surfing are stored for future use. It is useful to regularly wipe that space in order to improve performance (especially relevant on PCs with low RAM).

What else should you know?

There are applications such as CCleaner that help you remove unwanted data from PC. Using such applications is not always the most optimal solution if you do not plan to conduct maintenance regularly. However, it is still a nice tool to have at your disposal.

If you want to avoid collecting history and temporary files altogether, you can use the feature called “Private Browsing”. In order to open a new private tab, just hit the combination of keys: CTRL + SHIFT + P (default setting). You can also turn it on manually in the submenu “Safety”.

Private surfing is the best option if you don’t want to leave any traces of your online activities on the PC or in the cloud.
