I’ve (sort of) developed the practice of using a nice-looking custom background during video conversations. What began as a fun experiment during Zoom video conferences has evolved into a helpful method of keeping the accurate backdrop out of sight. A virtual background can hide unpleasant persons from the scene or keep anyone from looking at a less-than-appealing interior.
How to Change the Background of Skype Video Calls
To use this function, you must first download the most recent version of Skype for Desktop (Windows and Mac). Custom Background is not available in the Microsoft Store version of Skype for Windows 10.
1. First and foremost, ensure that you are in an active video conversation or meeting on Skype. Select “Choose background effect” from the “More” menu in the window’s bottom-right corner.
2. Click “Add Image” to use any image as your personalized backdrop for the current call. Alternatively, you may blur out your background, as illustrated below.
3. When the preceding instructions describe how to establish a custom backdrop while a conversation is in progress, you can also define a preset custom background for all Skype video chats. Click the “triple-dot” symbol next to your Skype name and select “Settings.”
4. Navigate to the “Audio & Video” section and choose “Add Image” to add a personalized background to your video conversations. Alternatively, you may use the “Blur” option to obscure your backdrop softly.
So there you have it. You may now use any picture as a custom backdrop during Skype chats. Choose a picture of paradise or anything else you like.
Skype’s custom backdrop function works best with basic backgrounds, such as a green screen and uniform lighting. It’s similar to how streamers use face cameras to hide their backdrops. The green screen allows Skype to tell the difference between you and your actual surroundings. Regardless, the function works perfectly as long as you don’t move around too much.
