Are you unhappy with your default homepage when you open Safari? Maybe your homepage was inadvertently changed without your knowledge by some unknown software download. In any event, there is nothing to worry about because resetting or changing your homepage on Safari is a piece of cake.
You can set your homepage to any web page you like such as your favorite search engine or maybe your email page. We’ll walk you through the quick and easy process and you’ll be back to your routine before you know it.
Setting Your Homepage in Safari for Mac
Start by opening your Safari browser. Next, click on the menu bar and select “Preferences” in the drop down menu. Now, select the “General” tab and go to “Homepage”. Next to “Homepage”, you will see a field where you can type in the URL for the page you desire. Alternatively, you can select the “Set the Current Page” button and your current browser page will become the default homepage.
Additionally since you are there in the “Preferences” area, you can set the pages for when you open a new tab or new window. To do this, go to the section “New Tabs Open With” and/or “New Windows Open With”. You will be given some options in the drop down of each of these sections.
- Favorites
- Top Sites
- Homepage
- Empty Page
- Same Page
Choose one of the options and exit “Preferences”.
You’re good to go now.
Setting Your Homepage in Safari on an iPhone.
Setting up your homepage on an iPhone is a little bit different than on a Mac because iOS doesn’t allow you to set a homepage. However, there is a way around this issue because you can create a page link for a website on the main screen of your iPhone or other iOS device. By doing so, you will go directly to that site in Safari.
Here are the steps for this work around.
Open Safari on your iPhone Home screen and go to the website you want as your default homepage. Now tap the “Sharing” icon (it is a square with an arrow) and it will display your options. Next, scroll up until you see “Add to Home Screen” and tap it. Then tap “Add” and close Safari. Your selected website will be on your main screen now.
Note: You have the option to change the name of the Homepage to your liking if you don’t want the default name.
Once you’re back to your main screen on your iPhone or iOS device, you will see your new homepage shortcut displayed and you’re all set.
